I needed a parking spot for our travel trailer close to Overland Park, KS. After my initial enquiry, I was called and invited to a site visit. The facility is well kept (not new) with easy secure access. I received a 2nd month rebate when I signed up. Very happy thus far with my selection.

Limited access hours

My only grievance is your hours of access. Every once in a great while, you are unable to be everywhere at the same time, and sometimes need that extra 30-45 minutes.

Best to look somewhere else

After a job transfer sent me to the west coast I needed long-term storage near Belton and an ex-inlaw KCMO family. I chose Scott Avenue but it was not called Central, then. It's changed hands 3 times in the 10 years I've been renting. I paid on time and for years no problem. Then I get a call asking me if I've moved out seeing that my door was up. Turns out my lock was cut months ago and all my things were stolen. Apparently the criminals came over a period of many visits to clear me and other units out. I was still paying full rent on an empty unit for 5 months. I filed a police report over the phone but the officer was blunt," this happens here all the time." For all the money I've paid out I was hoping for a little security but no. It was just a waste. /s

Most memorable moment: Bums had been living in one, and when I told him he just shrugged, "yeah it happens." I reserved a 5'x10' for $30 over internet, my was first mistake. (WARNING: for the record, the opening of unit IS NOT 5' wide, only 3' wide. The INTERIOR is 5' wide.) Office was locked up with sign stating they'd be back. My time is worth way more to me than this cut rate outfit saved me. Dude finally shows up and tells me I got all the way down there to learn they had none left except in the unsecured and un-monitored lot "off site." Not disclosed when I reserved this unit. Seriously? Bait and switch. I go down there and look. It's deplorable. I go back and guy is gone again, wtf? We stand around idk, 10-15min. I wanted to just walk away, but took so much time&effort; to transport heavy items we just wanted to be done. Dude shows up, I go in, long story short, after guy could see it was unacceptable (um, duh.) He miraculously comes up with same size unit at yet another "off site" place that at least has locked gate (but no cameras) Of course it's $10 more. My property is worth more than $10, so fine, whatever, sign me up, I'm frustrated and this is stupid. I'm paying $20 admin fee, after prorated $6 for few days of month and following month is "free" but really it's $26 for 34 days. Public Storage charges similar rate for gated clean unis and video surveillance and on site personnel, and better access hours. Specials are also similar. If u value your time, money, property, and peace of mind, be careful and don't go into this place site unseen. So disappointed, I've never seen such a facility. Saving a few dollars is so not worth this.

She showed a storage unit that when she got the rusted door up it had a rusted out hole in the back of the unit!

It was just gross. It seemed unsafe, unclean, peeling paint, holes in pavement, weeds growing in cracks, For $30 more I got a fairly new storage unit at American storage in Raymore...Oh so clean, nice and secure....and I feel safe there!

At public storage we would be paying $104 a mo for a 10 by 12 were at Central we are paying $77 a mo for a 10 by 24. So it is more affordable for us. Thank you very much.

There was a customer in front of us, so we waited while his paperwork was completed. We saw the storage units and found one in our size that would open, most did not, returned and completed the paperwork. We then started moving things into the storage unit.

Good price but unhappy they added duplicate insurance without telling me.

Most home owners or renters insurance will cover this so extra insurance is not needed. Would be better if they ask if you already had any insurance. When we started storing our stuff we were worried we might need to switch to a larger unit however no one was at the office. This was at 3:30pm.

I made an online reservation at SelfStorageDeals.com through SpareFoot. I had reserved a cheaper unit, but did not know that it was not behind the gated part of the property. When I arrived to secure my reservation and to see my unit, I was advised that I could upgrade to a better unit inside the gated area, which only costed a few dollars more. I am disabled and the customer service person that was very nice and showed me the available units by using a golf cart ,instead of walking. we moved in during July 2013 and have not experienced any problems as of yet. They could however improve the property by: 1. Adding additional lighting or put lighting in each unit 2. Security-I only solve one security camera located at the front of the gate. Additional security cameras are needed. 3. Gate access should not be limited to certain hours. Customers should have access to their storage unit 24 hours a day, seven days a week. OVERALL: this storage area is a good price for the area and the amount of space. However, if the above additional changes were made, it would increase the monthly charge to be an excellent value and the property to be a great secured location.

Leaking roof and mice infestation.

The critter control of the area is ridiculous. I had a mice infestation in my storage unit. The roof seemed to leaf at different places as well. Dont wast your money on the insurance either. They seen to only cover earthquakes and nothing else. When I approached an employee about the damage, he handed me a pamphlet and said to call them. Not very helpful to me.
