An All-Around Good Option

The Ithaca location is very convenient. It facility itself is clean and entrance-secured after hours. It appears to be very efficiently managed from the onsite office which is opened during normal business hours. The rental rates are reasonable--somewhat lower than than many competitors in the area. My unit was very clean. I really appreciate the online option for doing business and auto pay. I've only been in my unit a few days, but my impression is positive.

My Storage Experience

I Pre reserved a storage unit and apon arrival there was issues with the reservation they worked really hard to fix the issue in a timely manner and got us set up and to our storage unit. The only complaint I have is that is seems smaller than i ordered but feeds the purpose but over all if i need a storage for a motorcycle or car again they are the ones i would recommend cause i had a good experience

The place and location of this facility is very nice. Easy in and out. Staff was helpful. But…$35 in extra fees is poor. But to be honest, ALL facilities charge extra fees. The admin fee for here ($22) is just another way for them to collect more $$. Everything you purchase in life has paperwork. You should not be charged for them to do their job.

It’s a box to put things in at an ok rate. Make sure to tell them you booked on sparefoot or they won’t give you the free month. It’s a little out of town but easy enough to get to and there is 24/7 access.

Fair pricing for students

20min from Ithaca College campus but the fair AAA price and pro-rated last month makes it a very fair price for students and worth the trip. In addition you get Friendly staff and a clean well cared for facility 5x5 with probably an 8ft ceiling was too much room for one student with a lot of stuff from her dorm room.

Once I walked in the door, a staff memeber started talking with me. Even as the line formed behind me and my slow reading of the paperwork, he kept a smile on his face and made sure to entertain everyone in the room. Pretty Good experience - except for one slip up

Reserving was simple, Secure self storage is a nice, very secure , and clean facility. However, one of the employees forgot to take the padlock off our unit and when we showed up after hours to move in, no one could help us. They resolved it at 8am the next morning and were very apologetic. I think it was a fluke more than it was indicative of their usual CS. Otherwise, great CX and facility.

So many hidden costs

I went to rent a unit because of the competitive prices and the the AAA discount. In addition to a $22 administrative fee, they charged $10 for insurance (without asking me if I had my own insurance first) and they do not provide a lock, so that's another $10-20 for you to buy one of their locks. Also the first time I tried going the office was locked despite being during their listed hours. Will not be using again.

My Cornell student daughter did not seem to have any problem. With coronavirus and the closing of school, they were very helpful and even called me when my daughter forgot to put a lock on the unit and put one of theirs on until one of her friends could go up there and put their lock on so good for parents of college-age students. AVOID!!!

I had to sweep My own unit and she took forever to get me going! Awful service. Their website has been down since day one, you are unable to pay online and the facility is hardly secure with the gate being left open all night intermittently because it’s “broken” according to the management. There are so many other storage companies in Ithaca - AVOID THIS ONE.

50 minute check in time

I recently went out to this facility to sign the paperwork for my 10x20 unit and it took forever to get my lock on the unit. Apparently the computer system is from the early 90s and their internet bandwidth is microscopic. It took 45 minutes for the attendant to fill out the forms in the system and get them printed. God forbid they have more than one customer show up at a time. They would likely be forced to leave and come back another time. On the plus side the unit looks fine and the attendant was kind enough.

Gentlemen took care of everything I needed to move my things in. I had made an online reservation but for some reason I was not in the system. He took care of me right away and I was in and out, loading my things within 10 min. 10x10 unit features clean, dry anx a few pallets were already in my unit. I like the distance from everywhere and it feels less likely to be damaged or stolen. Great friendly service and the price can't be beat in Ithaca. No contract to stay either. Definitely highly recommend!!

Long term car storage

This facility ended up working out great for what I needed and could afford and I definitely feel comfortable with my car being here temporarily, even with it being outdoors. There are cameras all throughout the facility and you need a code to get in that you set up with staff during the write up of your contract. The owners help respect the privacy of the people renting space--an insurance company called regarding an appraisal that needed to be done for a prior collision and they would not even let them know the car was there without myself or a contact listed on the contract giving them approval.

Price is right, facility is clean and Mr. Pritchard is a lovely man. BUT, if you present your home owner's insurance policy at check in then you need not pay for their insurance of about $9.00 per month. Once you have the key, you have 24 hour access and it's super convenient to Cornell.

I really love that they require a $9 additional insurance costs. It covers up to $2,000 of damage due to weather, theft, fire, etc. The price is reasonable at $84 per month (insurance included). Bring your own lock if you have or buy there for ~$10. The staff is helpful and the place is clean and secure. Be sure to call ahead to ensure that someone is in the office. I would recommend for other students given its location to Cornell.

The guy who checked us is was rude and impatient. They don't mention the mandatory $9/month insurance and the staff charged my card over $200 without my consent. I thought he was charging only for the admin fee and the first month but he did not have good communications skills.

The perfect storage situation for college students over the summer.

It was a little difficult finding the facility itself as I am not originally from the Ithaca area, but besides that everything worked out smoothly. I walked into the main office and signed the necessary forms, got the key, and packed my things into the storage unit. It is also a bonus that I can come into the storage unit lot literally anytime with my gate access code. I couldn't have imagined this situation run any smoother.

I compared many storage businesses in the area before settling on Ithaca Self Storage, which was referred by a friend -- with good reason, it turns out. First, unlike many of the local operations, they have a good security system with cameras, good fences, and an electric gate. They have convenient access, however, for customers, 24 hours a day, with an electric gate code. Second, I had my stuff there for two years. When I pulled it out, it was in excellent shape. I remember asking one of the managers about drainage, etc., and he said they had put a lot of attention into design when they set up the complex. With the amount of precipitation we get here, these details are important. Third, every time I dealt with the management, I found them to be extremely professional, rigorous, and considerate. They go buy the book when it comes to procedure, legality, and security, which makes you feel really good about keeping your stuff there, but at the same time they are friendly and human. For example, once I left town forgetting to lock my lock; they noticed, contacted me, gave me several options for dealing with the situation, and took care of it promptly, all in a very friendly way. Very impressive. Overall, a very professional business with pride in what they do. Very good value for money. Highly recommended.

Very Nice Facility, long paperwork

This is by far the best stoareg place in Ithaca. The price is a bit higher than the others, but they are super secure. The paperwork though is very time consuming. The staff do have it down pat, and get through it quickly...but the lease alone is like buying a house!

Renting from secure storage was a nightmare. I arrive to put my stuff in my storage unit, no one is there - for an hour and a half. Theres a note on the door saying they went "to the bank." The two workers come back with sandwiches in their hands, and I walk towards the door as they are entering and they close the door in my face, and put up a "be back in 20 minutes sign." Extremely unprofessional and I was blown away by the lack of customer service. When I was finally able to do the paperwork, I asked "why were you closed for an hour and a half, and then for another 20 minutes?" "We have to take our regulated lunch break." "The note on the door said you were going to the bank." No answer. There is also no regulation saying that BOTH employees have to take their lunch break at the same time. Never again.

Move-in wasn't too smooth as on-line registration seemed to have fallen into the void. Staff was able to provide backup unit — eventually. First one turned out to be scheduled for maintenance. Had to remove belongings and start again. Facility seems well maintained overall. Staff was helpful; however, would suggest on move-in, move-out weekends from local colleges, staff keep someone on site during working hours. Noticed a kid arriving in a taxi only to find staff were "at lunch." That's a real hassle!
